>> kai reed has details. >> f.b.i. experts spent hours investigating the home of gatesburg resident gary giordano. he may have been the last person to see giordano alive. he reportedly said they were snuggling when she went missing. authorities no longer believe she is still alive. if she was, she would have come forward by now. >> we have his story that he was snorkling, and he was in the

procession of snorkling gear, but no one had seen them snorkling. >> he is scheduled to appear before a judge monday who could release him if he decides there is a lack of evidence. meanwhile, police are reviewing giordano's rental car. >> she told me to live every day like it's your last. >> robyn's brother describes her as a kind person and he believes she's still alive. >> my gut instinct is she is still out there. >> kai reed, www.wbaltv.com. >> a magistrate granted officer daniel red's release. after prioritization intervene, a federal judge ordered him back to jail. he is accused of selling drugs, and in some cases on police property. for now he will stay in jail until his trial date. red was assigned to the

northwest district. >> testimony resumes on monday in the trial of a man accused of murdering a johns hopkins researcher. yesterday jurors heard information on blood and d.n.a. evidence. >> senators heard more about the blood and d.n.a. evidence during the testimony friday in the trial of a man accuse of killing johns hopkins researcher. stephen pitcairn, 23 -- martin testified that wagner and merrit

left the parm and were gone for about an hour. he said he did not ask where they had been because, quote, not none of my business. then police arrived, searched his apartment, and took him and the others in for questioning. martin said he knew nothing about the murder that happened. point prosecution is staying his statements were inconsistent with the statement he made the next day. they say he dismantled a black folding knife with a three-inch blade found during the investigation. several stains tested positive for blood. a shoe also tested positive for blood. that shoe, prioritization believe, belonged to wagner.

>> as beloved as william donald schaefer was during his life, there were also those who wanted him dead. there were threats on the late leader's life. police believe those threats came from inside city hall, although no suspect was ever named. a man in pits bug threatened to shoot schaefer. no one was charged there. in 1990, a man sent to jail after a threat to shoot schaefer arrived at the state park. >> mimi lee is the wife of former governor blair lead and died of heart failure on tuesday. she was a research chemist before marrying in 1944. lee became acting governor.

the only difference a few clouds have been terroristing in. mostly a high, thin variety. thin cloudiness. isolated showers in virginia. closer to home, isolated shower. a couple of sprinkles, and north of cumberland, out in western, maryland, there is a thundershower now up flare the pennsylvania turnpike between cumberland and the turn bike out there. -- turnpike out there. an indication there is not much activity now, but it will be picking up during the day today. more on that in a minute. brightening up outside considerably in the past 30 minutes or so. 65 at b.w.i. marshall. humidity for the moment is down. it will be rising today. the barometer has been fairly steady. 30.05 the latest reading. the winds are calm. the moon is just past setting at

this stage of the game. sunrise is just a way -- some of those thin clouds and that big, bright moon obscured the sky a little bit. it might have been tough to see them with all that business going up in the sky. overnight tonight and tomorrow, we expect rain and clouds. i hope you got a chance to see it, if that interests you. annapolis 63. elkton 63. westminster 66. 50's to around 60. the green shades dominate, and that's the 60's near the bay. bay water temperatures up around 80. so on the beach area there along the shore. temperatures around 70 or low 70's. satellite image combined with the radar. there's that isolated shower north of come berland.

a couple other spots near camebridge. more activities. stronger storms up in michigan and out in arkansas as well. high pressure will be drifting east allowing more moisture and stormy weather to come in. the boundary between our nice air and the really tropical stuff is still hung up to the south of us. a lot of that moisture will be coming up during the day today. out in the tropics, franklin marginal. it is moving away from any land masses. it is to the northeast of mood mood. a couple other drop cal ways forecasters are watching out in the atlantic as well. our forecast. we'll see increasing clouds. nice this morning into early this afternoon. thunderstorm chances developing. 83 to 88 the highs. insta-weather futurecast. watch the timeline here as we get toward afternoon.

>> spotty activity beginning to pop up now. a couple sprinkles or quick shower. a little isolated thunderstorm right over the pennsylvania turnpike north of cumberland, maryland, right on the crestline there. there is some isolated activity also in southern, southwestern virginia, as well. we'll see more of that starting to pop up later today. most of the day should be fairly dry here until mid afternoon or so. let's take a look at the current situation outside. heavily filtered sunshine. humidity reasonably low at 78%. we will notice more humidity today than we have had the past couple days. the barometer has been bumping around 30.05 and 30.04 this

morning. that will begin to fall as the high pressure that's given us the great weather during the past couple days begins to slide east and salows more marginal weather to move in. right now in annapolis it is 63. 68 in camebridge. 65 on the boardwalk. chester it is down 67. 68 westminster. frederick 61. frostburg right now. so we have moisture beginning to come in from the south and we have weather systems out from the west of us beginning to push clouds into this high pressure. the high pressure is on the way out. the highest pressure is just kind of reevolving out over the atlantic. that will allow this other stuff out to the west and south of us to slip in. we notice big storms in the upper midwest, great lakes, and down in arkansas. and again, all of it is kind of drifting in this direction. the wound ritren the -- the boundary between the tropical sticky air and around us will

develop so we'll get more humidity in the atmosphere. in the tropics themselves, we have a marginal storm. franklin moving away from land masses northeast of bermuda. we have a couple tropical waves that forecasters are watching in the atlantic as well. our forecast locally here increasing clouds. thunderstorms developing. 83 to 88 the high clouds. futurecast shows by noon or 1:00 we pick up more cloudiness. later in the afternoon or evening isolated storm activity becomes widespread overnight. in could be heavy rains over the next inch, inch and a half. ocean city's forecast perhaps an isolated storm today. most of the day things should be dry. sunday and monday rain chances go up at the beach. the insta-weather plus forecast. rain chances increasing today and tonight. high sunday, tapering off on sunday.

tuesday and wednesday look dry, and temperatures will be nice. nothing extreme here. we don't get near 90. >> in this morning's education alert, it won't be long before 10s of thousands of maryland students will be back in the classroom. this morning 11 news education reporter tim tooten travels to harford county. >> this is a beautiful building. >> this is the newest elementary school built to relieve overcrowding. >> a new building says so many things. a new building says in harford county we are progressive, we are meeting the needs of students. we are providing fine ed cagal facilities, and -- fine educational facilities. >> what's number one?

>> number one is the quality of classroom instruction. we can look at study after study, look at initiative after initiative and what it comes down to is that if there is one single component that la -- that will ensure a student's success in school under the control of the school it is the quality of the teacher in the classroom. >> an important place is the media center. >> it is, and as you see, it was set up for classroom instruction. >> the buck stops with you. >> lots of bucks stop with me in terms of funding for the school system. we're great. >> the economy, nothing was off-limits. i'm sure the school system wasn't either. >> as we said during our budget formulation time, our priority was to effect the classroom last and least. we really did a fair amount of slashing in all areas but the classroom. >> we heard, it's coming, now

many cashes -- so many carbs and proteens. >> the first thing i see is calories. >> ta-dah! >> i just guessed. >> we did a survey. we had so much misinformation out there. we found out most americans will tell you that's about the fourth thing they will look at when looking at a food label is calories. they will check the sugar grams. if you watch that you will lose weight. that's not really true. they look at fiber. they will look at how many carbs, because carbs are vilified. lettuce is a cash hydrate. you want to look at the calorie amount. if it is a reasonable calorie for a big enough serving then i will look down at things that

matter like saturated fat, like sugar grams, like sodium. first you have to say, calories in, calories out. >> calories first. >> so food labels. this morphed floo the next question. food labels can be confusing. >> after you look at the amount persevering, what seems like a reasonable amount you are going to eat and not go, great, where is my food now? so you have a good amount. then you do want, after that, too look at the things like the fat grams. you want them to be not saturated and under a couple. you are looking for nonsaturated fats. you are looking for no transfats. >> you don't want something 210 calories but 16 grams of if the. >> and sugar grams, here's the thing to watch. if the carbohydrates are 20, but sugar grams are ompe half that amount. so in it is 20 carbs but 15

at times they can ply their trade. regulators want to protect the chesapeake bay and the crab populations for the future. while numbers are sketchy from catch reports, officials think 53 million pounds were harvested but millions more were left. watermen cannot continue the decade-long tradition and how officials will ensure there is a crab population to harvest for years to come. the battle is so pin tense that factions of the watermen are battling reach other. some are not even participating in the heated debate. with long-term discussion necessary both sides will need to come together on ways to preserve the industry and the bay. it will not happen unless everyone comes to the available everyone comes to the available willing to work together.
